Light for Islam was founded by
a former Muslim born and raised in a
country
in the
Middle East, who for over
30 years
was a practicing Muslim. He
immigrated
to the U.S. in 1978 and
converted
to
Christianity in 1979,
and has been living
in the U.S. ever since.
His upbringing in a Muslim country
-
along
with his studies in the religion
and
history
of Islam - has made him
an authority
on this subject. He often
lectures and
teaches in different
churches around
the country.
Of the vision and mission of
Light for Islam, "Iraj" tells us:
"It was the morning of September 11, 2001.
Just 10 days earlier I had returned from
Chicago, where I attended Moody Bible
Institute and planted an Iranian Church
alongside of the Moody Church. That
morning I was at my doctor’s office
when my cell phone rang. It was my son
calling me from California. He asked, 'Dad,
have you heard of the planes crashing
into the World Trade Center buildings?'
"At that moment my attention was drawn
to the television in the waiting room. Like
millions of Americans, I rushed home to
watch the news. September 11, 2001 went
down in history as a day of infamy. For
centuries Americans had the security of
being separated from the rest of
the world by oceans.
"This separation gave them a sense
of security. But on that day, this security
evaporated and the eyes of many
Americans were opened to a reality that
they did not want to face. Yes, their country
had been attacked by Muslims. The third
plane crashed into the Pentagon and
the fourth one (believed to have been headed
for the White House), crashed in Philadelphia
only because some brave Americans
dared to resist the hijackers.
"On that day, and in the days after, the name
Islam and the Muslims were introduced to
America. It did not take long for Americans
to notice that their neighbors a few houses
up were Muslims. Their children came home
from school and told their parents about
a fellow student who claimed to be a Muslim.
"What is a Muslim? They would ask their
parents from whom they received no
answer. And, for a period of time, Americans
would be confused! Their President would
call Muslims peace-loving people and their
religion - Islam - a religion of peace. At the
same time, the media exposed the threat
coming from Muslims, whose goal is the
destruction of America under any cost.
"Over five years have now passed. Many
wounds have healed and over three
thousand innocent people who lost their
lives are almost forgotten. Yet, the following
questions still remain unanswered:
"Do Americans have now more knowledge
about Islam? Has the church of Jesus
Christ received the call of God to deal
with Muslims? Is Islam truly a religion
of Peace? How did it start? Who is
Muhammad, the prophet of Islam? What
is the Muslim holy book? How does Islam
look at Jesus Christ? How do Muslims
see Christians? Is the Bible holy for
Muslims? What are the pillars of
Islam?
What are the fundamental
differences
between Islam and
Christianity? How
to share the Gospel with
Muslims? Has
the church awaken to its challenge?
"Not long after the events of 9/11, the Lord
spoke to my heart and gave me a passion
for a mission. He made it clear to me the
purpose
of bringing me to this country was
to fulfill
this mission. The mission is to
answer the above questions to the church
in the U.S., and the challenge is to be bold
in my mission. My hope is that some day
not long in the future, the Muslims of the
world will 'know the truth and the truth will
set them free.' But they will not know the
truth unless the church rises up to its
challenge and commits itself to the
great commandment of Jesus the Christ."
